The School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics is a focus for numerous
creative writing activities and events. As such, we have developed over the
years strong regional links:
- In conjunction with New Writing North and The Centre for the Children's
Book, we have developed various short
courses open to the public, and created courses
for teachers in creative writing.
- The School is running a week long Spring
School during the Easter vacation 2008 (April 7th - 11th).
- Numerous creative writing activities
are held in the School - we jointly sponsor, with Bloodaxe Books, The
Newcastle/Bloodaxe Poetry Lectures.
- We have excellent resources for creative writing,
including access to the collection of multi award winning poet, Barry
MacSweeney.
- We host, jointly with the University of Durham, The Northern Arts Literary
Fellowship, currently held by Colette
Bryce.
- Northern Stage fund a post with us in dramaturgy.
One of our great strengths is the sheer number of writers
who teach within the School, staff and students alike have achieved much
recognition for their work. Read further about our recent and archived news
in creative writing.
