Bruce Babington receives film award

Jonathan Dennis Award for achievement in the field of New Zealand Film History

Professor Babington was honoured at the 2008 Australia and New Zealand Film and History Conference.

Professor Bruce Babington has received the Jonathan Dennis Award for achievement in the field of New Zealand Film History.  The award was announced on 29 November at the 2008 XIVth Biennial Conference of the Film and History Association of Australia and New Zealand, held at the University of Otago, Dunedin.

The award recognises excellence of achievement by New Zealand film and television historians.  Bruce Babington is Professor of Film studies at Newcastle University and has published many leading books and research papers, including A HISTORY OF THE NEW ZEALAND FICTION FEATURE FILM, Manchester University Press, Manchester, 2007 (this publication is the main subject of the award),  Other examples of Professor Babington's work are: Affairs to Remember:The Hollywood Comedy of the Sexes (with Peter W.Evans), Manchester University Press, 1989; Launder and Gilliat, Manchester University Press, 2001; Biblical Epics: Sacred Narrative in the Hollywood Cinema (with Peter W.Evans), 1993; Carmen On Film: A Cultural History (with P.Powrie, C.Perriam, Ann Davies), Indiana University Press, 2007.
