Writing for Television

Workshops to be taught by John Yorke, Michael Chaplin and Debbie Horsfield.

Two days of workshops on writing for television, taught by John Yorke (Controller Drama Production Studios, BBC & Visiting Professor of TV Studies), Michael Chaplin (script and screen writer) & Debbie Horsfield (script and screen writer).

Saturday 12th April 2008: Dramatic Structure

Saturday 17th May 2008: The Hero's Journey

Both workshops will be held in the Percy Building, Newcastle University, from 10am to 4pm.

John Yorke

John Yorke, a former student of Newcastle University and now Visiting Professor of TV Studies, is currently Controller of Drama Production Studios for the BBC. He runs the prestigious ‘Writing Academy’ for the BBC and has numerous BAFTA and EMMY awards to his credit. His recent portfolio includes Life on Mars, The Street, Hustle and Robin Hood.

Michael Chaplin

Previously Head of Drama and Arts at Tyne Tees Television and Head of Programmes at BBC Wales, Michael is now a full-time writer. He created Grafters and Monarch of the Glen and has written episodes of Dalziel and Pascoe and Foyle’s War.

Debbie Horsfield

Also a former graduate of Newcastle University, Debbie is a full-time writer for theatre and television. Her TV writing includes The Riff-Raff Element, Making Out, Cutting It and, most recently True Dare Kiss.
