Bloodaxe Books

Bloodaxe Books is one of Britain's leading poetry publishers. It works with the Newcastle Centre for Literary Arts to deliver the annual Bloodaxe Poetry Lectures.

The lectures are free and open to the general public. They are recorded for the Newcastle Centre for Literary Arts (NCLA) archives and published as a book by Bloodaxe.

Bloodaxe published the anthology Out of Bounds, edited by Prof. Jackie Kay and Dr James Procter, as part of the Devolving Diasporas project.

Bloodaxe has also co-published with NCLA. Titles include:

  • Don't Bring Me No Rockin' Chair (2013), a poetry anthology on ageing
  • the essay collections Elizabeth Bishop: Poet of the Periphery (ed. Linda Anderson and Jo Shapcott, 2002)
  • Reading Barry MacSweeney (ed. Paul Batchelor, 2013)

Newcastle University has acquired the archive of Bloodaxe Books as a 'living archive', with annual accruals to the collection. Preliminary work on the archive is recorded in a short film entitled Proof.
