Background

Cynthia Fuller was born in Kent in 1948, and has lived in various places including Aberdeen for eight years. She moved to the North East in 1980. She has two grown up sons.

She works freelance in Adult and Higher Education, teaching literature and creative writing, and runs writing workshops with different groups in the community.

Cynthia worked as a poetry editor for the magazine Writing Women for 12 years. Currently she is teaching creative writing courses for Leeds University in Middlesbrough, and literature for the Open University. She is also involved in research into poetry and health at Newcastle University, and developing courses in this field. She has had three books of poems published by Flambard Press: Moving Towards Light (1992); Instructions for the Desert (1996); Only a Small Boat (2001). She is working on her next collection.

Cynthia teaches a literature option on the MA, the two Writing and Health short courses, and distance learning courses in poetry and prose.
