English Language and Linguistics

MLitt in English Language and/or Linguistics

The MLitt is a postgraduate degree (1-year full-time or 2-year part time) that is tailored to each student's individual interests. It is designed to allow you to develop in more detail aspects of the English language and linguistics that have interested you as an undergraduate and to prepare you for PhD research (if that is your aim).

You will be assigned a supervisor appropriate to your interests and will write between two and four research assignments, which amount to a combined minimum of 16,000 words, on topics agreed with the supervisor. In addition to these, you will write a substantial dissertation. You are not committed to having just one supervisor for all research assignments and the dissertation, if your interests cover differ fields.

The students also attend the obligatory module on research methods in linguistics, offered by the school.
