Staff Profile

Jeffrey Wilson

Computing, Technical & Safety Officer

Background

Roles and Responsibilities

I provide IT, video and video editing, audio, digital media and technical support for staff and UG/PG students in SELLL. More specifically, web support, PC and Mac support, desktop and network support, programming, scripting, Adobe Premiere Pro and Apple Final Cut support. I am also the safety officer and fire marshal for SELLL.

Background

I previously worked at the Australian National University, originally as a photographic darkroom technician and scientific photographer and ultimately in network and desktop support. I moved to acquire IT and digital skills as the photographic industry shifted from a film-based medium to digital, with audio, video and video editing being further extensions of this shift.

I hold formal qualifications in both Photography and IT (including specialist Mac support) and I previously taught vocational level B&W darkroom and photography techniques at the Canberra Institute of Technology.

I was born a Geordie and I lived in the USA as a kid and in Australia for much of my life. I have travelled reasonably extensively to various destinations in Britain, Europe and the Mediterranean, the USA, Australia and New Zealand.

I have an interest in photography, both chemical and digital. I have an interest in military and civil aviation and I am a qualified pilot with an NPPL(M). I also enjoy hill walking, archery and proper beer. I support NUFC and the Australian cricket team and I'm a fan of motor racing (especially F1, Moto GP and Australian V8 Supercars).
