Careers

What Next?

What do our students go on to do? Our students often have careers in public relations, the media (publishing, journalism, advertising etc.), business and administration, and teaching. See here for a list of just some of the careers of our most recent graduates. To meet some of our former students and hear about how they used their degrees please see our video 'Interviews'.

Our degrees in English Literature, English Language and Linguistics give you indispensable skills that are recognised by employers who put a high value on people who can construct a clearly expressed argument; who can present ideas concisely, logically and clearly; who can make a critical analysis of a piece of writing; who can deal competently with a large amount of complex information; and who can show initiative in conducting independent research.

Check out what our students think about the course they have taken, the School and University and what some of them have done since they graduated from Newcastle University and what are they doing now.

At Newcastle you have the opportunity and facilities to get involved in a wide range of activities to boost your employability. The multi award winning University Careers Service is one of the best in the country. It ensures employers visit the University for numerous events and presentations, offers individual CV and application form clinics, runs workshops and of course offers one-to-one careers advice.
