Professor Nilanjan Chakraborty of the School of Engineering has recently been awarded the 2016 UK–Gulf Institutional Links grant by the British Council, for a project entitled ‘A combined experimental and numerical investigation of ignition probability of turbulent inhomogeneous biogas-air mixtures’.
This collaborative project with Dr SF Ahmed from the University of Qatar is for two years, and has a total fund of £371,981. The computational analysis will be carried out in Newcastle, while the group in Qatar will be responsible for experimental measurements.
The award is a significant achievement, being one of only 8 projects funded out of a total of 172 applications. "This speaks volumes for the quality of computational combustion research in the School of Mechanical and Systems Engineering at Newcastle University," noted Prof Chakraborty.
