Structural Performance of Naval Vessels

The research investigates the use of steel and aluminium for the construction of large naval ship hulls. The project provides much needed understanding and methodologies for the effect of damage when using of steel and aluminium in large ship hull construction. Structural analysis methodologies at both the component level and the global level is compared with available experimental data and then referenced to similar steel structures for comparative purposes. One of the main purposes of this research grant is to further develop the new methodology for predicting the progressive collapse of damaged ship’s hull girders.
