Dual reutilisation of waste thermal and cryogenic energy on Liquefied Natural Gas ferries

The project aims to further develop partnerships with the Shipbuilders and Shiprepairers Association, the world-leading liquid natural gas (LNG) ferry manufacturer, Meyer Turku, and the operator, Viking Line, via preliminary research to develop a conceptual system for effective reutilisation of waste thermal and cryogenic energy. Real-time recoverable cryogenic and thermal energy will be identified through field tests; the potential energy efficiency increase of the test ship will be demonstrated; and strong research links will be established with key industry partners in the UK marine sector to develop further collaborative research initiatives.
