Since I came to Newcastle in 2000 there has been a dramatic change to the estate. By 2012 the University and its partners will have invested some £300m in it. Nine new buildings together with extensive refurbishment have achieved very significant improvement in building condition and fitness for purpose.
Our strategy has been to improve quality and utilisation and reduce floor space to create a cost effective estate. This was achieved through a closely integrated master plan and space management based approach.
Our focus now is on improving external estate environment and sustainability through our Coherent Campus initiative. View our Estate Strategy for 2007-12 and the Campus for the Future brochure setting out all our current development.
I have been involved in several HE Space Management projects including a study led by Newcastle which produced sector wide guidelines. The guidelines are available free to download.
