  • Baseline environmental review
    • Assesses the University’s current activities and collates information about the environmental history of the University with regards to previous land use.
  • Draft environmental policy
  • Environmental awareness training
    • Identifying the relevant environmental training for the University’s stakeholders

What we have done (Bronze)

On completing the Bronze phase the University has pulled together a large amount of information as well as identifying areas that need to be focused on in the future.

The baseline review of the University’s activities revealed that the main areas of concern are emissions and discharges, construction and refurbishments and environmental management systems.

The environmental history of the site was gathered from anecdotal evidence from long term staff, the Environment Agency, the Estates staff and the University Library. It has been found that the University has had no major spills or accidents in the last 5 years.

The University has published and made public a draft environmental policy, the Environmental Sustainability Policy available at http://www.ncl.ac.uk/estates/about/policy/. Maps have also produced for the central campus detailing the locations of car parks, waste bins and the drainage system. These maps will be drawn up for other University sites in the near future.

The University’s stakeholders have been identified as well as planning appropriate environmental training for each group.
