INTO Newcastle University
New Build Update.
September 2012 will see the completion of the new buildings and facilities for INTO Newcastle University on the University campus … as part of the Joint Venture between Newcastle University and INTO University Partnerships.
Student Residences
A total of 543 bed spaces will be available across two new buildings:
- Joseph Cowen Halls – located on St Thomas Street, a combination of new build (on the site of the old Joseph Cowen House) and refurbishment to the old Porter Building.
- Bernicia Halls - located opposite the Herschel Building and next to the new Music Annexe.
Academic Facility
- The INTO Building - the main academic teaching building located on Percy Street, directly opposite the Haymarket. This will house all staff and provide teaching accommodation for all INTO Newcastle students.
The main building will provide 18 new teaching rooms, Learning Resource Centre, a lecture theatre, science laboratory, administrative and academic offices, and restaurant. All of these are purpose built and feature interactive teaching facilities as well as being wi- fi enabled throughout.
Teaching facilities will also be located in the Joseph Cowen Halls accommodation (basement level), consisting of two Multimedia IT Classrooms, two conventional classrooms and an architecture studio.
Landscaping is being completed in conjunction with the coherent campus scheme and will join up with the rest of the campus outside the Herschel Building.
It is anticipated progress from Balfour Beatty will continue right up until August 2012 and landscaping will then be completed.
