Changes to University Car Parking Arrangements
Due to the continuing loss of parking in the centre of the campus we are looking to maximise all parking available to the University including those spaces on the periphery of the campus. The number of spaces required for student use at residences has been revised and all those spaces over and above that requirement will be made available to staff from 1 October 2015. The responsibility for issuing staff permits and the monitoring/control of parking in the centre of campus and on the periphery (including residences) will lie with Estate Support Service. Accommodation & Hospitality Services will no longer issue parking permits to staff. Standard Permit (Pay & Display)
The University operates a 'pay and display' system for standard permit holders. Any member of staff is entitled to apply for a car parking permit at a cost of £50. This authorises access onto the site to seek a space and pay the relevant fee at the nearest 'pay and display' machine. Please note that there are only approximately 255 standard parking bays in total across the campus. Click on the link for location of parking spaces and 'pay and display' machines (PDF). Standard permit holders can also utilise bays at Richardson Road including Marris House (available until June 2016), Windsor Terrace, Sandyford Road, Castle Leazes and Newcastle University Business School.
From 1st October 2015 parking tariffs are as follows:
Reserved Parking (Business need)
Reserved spaces are allocated on the basis of operational need. Requests will require completion of a car parking permit application form together with the reserved parking authorisation form signed off by a Faculty PVC or Registrar. The cost of a reserved parking bay is £1,320.
Reserved Parking (Non business need)
This new type of permit will offer staff a reserved bay at one of the sites below and will be offered on a first come first saved basis:
The cost for the annual reserved (non-business need) permit will be £960 per annum. A pro rata option will be available for part-time staff ie the cost of a three day a week permit will be £576.
Staff are reminded that Newcastle City Council are still offering our staff discounted rates on annual permits at Eldon Garden car park. The cost of the annual permit is £900 (discounted from £1456). The annual permit will entitle you to park Monday to Friday throughout the year and the car park is open from 7.00am to 10pm. To give you a comparison on cost the University rate of £4 a day plus the cost of the parking disc (£50) calculated on 218 days usage equates to £922. Payments can be made to NCC on a 10 month direct debit instalment basis. Permit holders will not be given an individual marked bay but will be guaranteed space as the number of permits issued will not exceed the number of spaces available. Spaces will be located on the upper levels of Eldon Garden car park on Percy Street. Pro rate rates are available for staff.

Staff wishing to apply for a car sharer’s permit should complete the form Car Sharers' Permit and return it to Helpdesk & Admin Team, ESS, 1st Floor, Agriculture Building.
Parking for Disabled Staff and Students

Parking for visitors on University business may be booked through ESS Helpdesk or a staff member on behalf of their visitor by completing the Visitor Parking Request Form. Map showing location of Visitor Parking (PDF: 1.38MB)
Permit holders requiring authorised overnight parking are to purchase the relevant number of daily tickets required from a Pay and Display machine on the day they park their vehicle. The Pay and Display tickets should be taken to the Security Control Room, Barras Building, where the officers on duty will annotate them in red for the successive days that the vehicle is authorised to park on site. All relevant tickets are to be clearly displayed in the vehicle during the owner's absence.
There are separate arrangements for contractor parking including assessment of need, permits, charges and penalties.
