Please recycle mobile phones, chargers and headsets using the Porter Request Form.
There are a number of ad hoc mobile phone recycling schemes already running in the University. If you prefer to use these systems please carry on doing so.
Why we Recycle Mobile Phones
The rechargeable battery and other components such as the LCD display have toxic components. According to Waste Online there are over 20 million potentially toxic redundant mobile phones in the UK, making up 1-2% of electronic waste.
Owing to tighter waste legislation, we must ensure that any electrical waste produced is not sent to landfill, which includes mobile phones.
Mobile phones are donated to charity and either sold at home or abroad or dismantled and sold for recycling.
