New Recycling Service
General recycling has now been introduced across the whole campus. Every large building has a comprehensive recycling service and you should not be more than about 30 seconds from a recycling bin on campus.
Thank you for your patience while we have been rolling out the scheme. You will be glad to know that you are achieving about 50-65% recycling (by volume) in most buildings.
Recycling Scheme Details
You can now recycle:
- plastic bottles and their caps
- all other plastics
- glass bottles and jars
- cans
- food waste
- increased range of paper products:
- magazines;
- newspapers;
- leaflets;
- journals;
- thin card;
- brown and white envelopes.
Put your recyclable materials into the centralised recycling bins, which are emptied every day.
Recycling other types of waste.
Changes to how you Dispose of your Waste
You need to separate your waste so that we can recycle it for you. This will change to how you dispose of your waste in your office or place of work/study.
Existing Office Rubbish Bins
Your office rubbish bin will be used for general non-recyclable waste only and should not contain any recyclable material. Please see information on general non recyclable waste.
Office bins should not contain:
- paper and card
- cans
- glass bottles or jars
- plastic bottles
- any other plastics
- food waste
Cleaners will not empty bins that contain recyclable materials. With less waste in office rubbish bins (especially food waste) they will only be emptied once a week.
Enhanced Cleaning Service
As a result of the recycling scheme cleaners won't have to empty every office rubbish bin every night. This will give them more time to offer an even better cleaning service.
Recycling in Foyers, Canteens, Meeting Rooms, Lecture Theatres and on Campus
Where recycling hasn’t already been introduced, recycling containers will be placed in the above rooms. Containers will have improved signage and improved access. Servicing will be as normal.
