From 2009 to 2015, a group of Chinese activists and lawyers defend the workers’ rights, not without risk to themselves. Shot over six years in the industrial heartland of south China, this documentary follows labour activists as they find common grounds with workers, helping them to negotiate with officials and factory owners over wages and working conditions. Threats, attacks, detention and boredom become part of their daily lives as they struggle to strength worker solidarity in the face of threats and pressure from police and their employers. In the process, we see the emergence of a working class consciousness and labour movement in China.

The film was selected to compete at the prestigious international film festivalsincluding Rotterdam and Cinema du Reel.
