Current projects

Current projects include: SIDE (Social Inclusion through the Digital Economy), a one day conference on New Uses of Bourdieu in Film and Media Studies and an international conference Revisiting Star Studies. Recent projects have included symposia on Crime, Gender and Representation and Women, Aging and Popular Cinema. The Centre also previously contributed to the ESRC Festival of Social Science 2011.

We are also developing several film and digital media related events as part of the University’s Societal Challenge Theme for 2012 on Social renewal.

  • Revisiting Star Studies: International Conference
    Project Leader(s): Professor Guy Austin and Dr Sabrina Yu
    This conference aims to reassess some of the dominant models in star studies, and generate new critical paradigms that are more appropriate to address non-Hollywood stardom. We also wish to identify under-researched areas in film stardom.
