Congratulations to Fiona Young who was awarded runner-up in the category of Academic and Peer Presentation.
Congratulations to both Emma Kirkpatrick (current PhD student) and Dr Sally Williamson (Research Associate) for winning Tuesday's competition. After a training event in Newcastle, both Emma and Sally will be going on to present at the Sheffield Winter Garrdens on 7th July as part of the Sheffield Children's Festival.
Congratulations to Christine Elliott, an Occupational Therapist and current PhD student at Newcastle. The British Association of Occupational Therapists have awarded Christine a highly prestigious merit award for her contribution to the profession.
The merit awards were established in 2008 to celebrate excellence as recognised by a British Association of Occupational Therapists member's peer group.
Former CBE graduate student Lucy Asher, receives a prestigious award in the category of Health and Medical Sciences
Lucy Asher, a former CBE student was recently invited to receive a 2011 UK Scopus Young Researcher Award. Awards were presented at a ceremony held at the Royal Society in London.
Lucy, and her fellow young researchers were assessed by a jury of 40 comprised of former Fulbright Scholars, academic journal editors and other subject-specific experts. Michael Arthur, Vice Chancellor of the University of Leeds, Chair of the Russell Group and Chair of the jury, co-presented the awards with Ron Mobed, Elsevier's CEO Science & Technology. During the ceremony Michael Arthur said, "a part of the UK's strength in research is the ability of universities to attract and train excellent researchers...the level of excellence of the researchers we honour here tonight is a reconfirmation of the UK's continued excellence in global research."
Lucy did her PhD in the Centre for Behaviour and Evolution graduating in 2008 and has recently taken up a lectureship at Nottingham following a post-doc at the Royal Veterinary College. Half of the 14 publications contributing to Lucy’s award are based on her research conducted with at Newcastle.
