Responding to Requests

You have the right, under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, to request information held by the University which it has not already made available through its publication scheme.

Requests must be made in writing and the University may charge a fee, which will be calculated according to Fees Regulations.

The University will not be required to release information to which an exemption in the Act legitimately applies, however the University may be required to explain to you why it is not releasing the information and may also have to justify the explanation to the Information Commissioner.

  • Provided the request is made in writing the University will respond. However, in order to assist the University to service your request more quickly, it might help you to make use of the Freedom of Information Request form.

  • The University will generally respond to requests within 20 working days of a request being received.

  • If a fee is applicable to the information requested, the University will not comply with the request until the fee has been received. In such cases, the University will inform you of this within 20 days of receiving your request.

  • In cases where information is covered by an exemption, but the University is nevertheless required to consider the public interest in releasing it, we will endeavour to provide the information within a reasonable time.

  • The University has a designated member of staff who is responsible for Freedom of Information. Your request will be processed by this Officer regardless of where in the University the request is initially received. It will help if you send your request direct to the Freedom of Information Officer. Provide full contact details in order that we are able to quickly clarify any aspect of your enquiry.
