The Development Trust

As an organisation with charitable status, the University can receive and manage your gift under the rules of the UK’s Charity Commission.

However, prior to the University having charitable status, the Development Trust was established to manage gifts to Newcastle University. The Trust is an independent registered charity which sends annual reports and accounts to the Charity Commission. It was established in 1972.

The Trustees meet twice each year to receive reports on the teaching, research and student support which previous gifts have made possible, and to consider the investment performance of the Trust's portfolio.

This is made up of about 100 endowments currently totalling over £39 million, most of which supports academic posts and student scholarships across the University's faculties.
