Enrich Lives Through Culture and the Arts

Newcastle University has invested heavily in its cultural assets to benefit the whole region.

Cultural events are an essential part of Newcastle University’s engagement with the wider world. The Great North Museum has already brought 1 million visitors onto campus in its first year to view its extensive natural history, archaeology and geology collections.

The Hatton Gallery is next in line for improvement and refurbishment. The Northern Stage theatre helps to host the annual visit to Newcastle of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Renowned novelists and poets read regularly at the Newcastle Centre for Literary Arts , and the Insights series of public lectures and lunchtime concerts in the King’s Hall attract a loyal following.

The newly opened Music Building on campus provides rehearsal and performance spaces for music students. The University is home to the only folk music degree in the country, in partnership with the Sage Gateshead.

The Robinson Library is one of the most important parts of the campus for students. Many alumni support the Library with their giving so that current students can have access to up to date books and journals both in print and online.
