Law School

What difference will it make?

The Law School project aims to enhance the experience of Law students at Newcastle by giving them access to outstanding facilities and providing opportunities for talented students, regardless of circumstances. The School already has excellent results in the National Student Satisfaction Survey thanks to its excellence in teaching and community atmosphere, placing it second in the country for student satisfaction.

We would like to develop the building itself so that facilities match up to those offered by other institutions, and provide resources to ensure that anyone with the potential to study Law at Newcastle is able to do so. Here is how we plan to do this:

  • Building upon a recent investment by the University in an extension to the current building, the Law School would like to create a dedicated Moot Room, complete with audio-visual technology to enable detailed evaluation of mooting events. This would be an excellent resource and would give students a way to prepare for professional practice in an authentic environment.
  • There are currently no social learning facilities in Newcastle Law Library, so an additional aim is to develop a social learning zone, complete with comfortable seating and tables, within the library. This area would enable students to sit together and discuss group projects with easy access to relevant reading material.
  • The School would like to offer scholarships to attract talented students from all backgrounds.

What difference can you make?

We need your help to ensure that a promising and diverse student population has access to the best possible resources.

  • The refurbishment of the Moot Room will cost £30,000, with a further £10,000 of costs for furniture and £4,000 for audio-visual equipment.
  • We need to raise £18,000 to create the GDL Learning Space

There are various ways in which you can help create opportunities for talented students by establishing a scholarship.

A new lecture theatre has already been completed, but we would welcome any opportunity to work with law firms on sponsorship opportunities.

Our goal

Our aim is to provide the best possible learning environment for our students and to give them all the practical experience they need to develop a sound foundation for the future. We want to continue to attract the best students regardless of background, and to turn Newcastle Law School into the number one destination for ambitious and motivated people.

If you are interested in supporting the Law School and helping to transform the future of our graduates, we would love to hear from you.
