To enhance Newcastle’s global reputation and ensure we can continue in our mission to deliver benefits for life-long health, the Faculty of Medical Sciences seeks support for major initiatives that will continue to maintain momentum towards advances in major disease areas. Newcastle has strong, world leading teams working on age related, neurological and chronic diseases as well as renowned Institutes working on cancer and stem cell regenerative medicine and has built up significant research expertise in public health and infectious diseases.
With excellent facilities and a strong basic science research base, Newcastle is well placed to translate findings into real clinical applications that benefit patients both locally and across the world. We are committed and excited by how our work will enhance the health for millions of people in the future.
To achieve our vision, we must continue to attract the best academic leaders by funding their posts and ensuring talented researchers have the opportunity to thrive in our vibrant research teams. Maintaining and enhancing research infrastructure is also essential to furthering our understanding of different diseases and health issues and by investing in equipment, laboratories and new buildings, we can continue to build the critical mass in the areas where Newcastle leads the way.
To mark the 175th Anniversary year of Medicine in Newcastle, the Medical School has launched a new fund to support scholarships for medical students taking a year out of their undergraduate degree to focus on medical research in one of Newcastle’s leading teams.
The Fund enables donors to give regular monthly gifts in support of prestigious scholarships. Naming opportunities also exist for individuals and MB BS reunion year groups.
