The School of Geography, Politics and Sociology (GPS) is an internationally-renowned community of academics and students, both undergraduate and postgraduate.

At postgraduate level we offer a range of innovative taught programmes, in addition to research programmes across the fields of geography, politics and sociology. With a postgraduate research community of over 100 students, the School provides a vibrant intellectual environment for study.

The School's research is world class and internationally-focussed. In addition to the established disciplinary strengths in geography, politics and sociology, the School is a powerhouse of inter-disciplinary research. Much of its research aims to inform public debate and contribute to public policy.

The School's principal asset is its academic staff, of which there are more than 70. Recruiting, retaining and supporting staff of the highest calibre ensures the quality of our teaching programmes, and underpins our acknowledged excellence as a centre of research.

The Head of School is Professor Andrew Gillespie. The Deputy Head for Geography is Dr Steve Juggins, for Politics it is Professor William Maloney and for Sociology it is Professor Robert Hollands.
