photograph GPS Postgraduate Student accepted as delegate to the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen

Gemma Bone is currently studying for an MA in International Politics (Globalization, Poverty and Development) in the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology at Newcastle University whilst working for Hilary Armstrong MP part-time. Gemma has been accepted as a youth delegate to the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen with the UK Youth Climate Coalition who are a group of young people from around the UK who have come together to take action on climate change - the defining issue of our generation.

Gemma says 'We are going to Copenhagen as official observers because climate change isn’t just about the polar bears - it’s about people. It’s about creating green jobs, a stable economy, stronger communities and justice for those most affected by its impacts. I very much see my role as trying to get as many people as possible to get involved and motivated to demand real action from our politicians at these crucial negotiations'.

Gemma will be using the knowledge, study skills and in-depth knowledge that she has gained from her Masters degree in the School to really make the most of this opportunity. Please see Gemma's blog to follow developments over the next few months:

Gemma is looking for other enthusiastic people to get involved – especially other young people – after all, its the future generations we’re fighting for! People can contact Gemma via the blog or by email (gemmalouisebone@gmail.com).
