Researchers join prestigious Sociology Project

Dr Peter Merrington and Liz Robson have recently joined sociology to work on the prestigious AHRC project Beyond the Multiplex (BtM).

Peter Merrington's knowledge and expertise from the production of film festivals and contemporary art biennials. Before joining the project, Peter was Assistant Director of AV Festival, a leading international festival of contemporary art based in North East England. He received his PhD in Fine Art from Newcastle University (2016) which focused on the under-researched area between contemporary art practice, curatorship, festival studies and theories of space and place. A perfect underpinning for BtM’s major objective to grow knowledge of film audiences for specialised film.

Liz Robson has joined the BtM project from the Centre of Urban and Regional Development Studies (CURDS) where the focus is very much on how different activities and interventions contribute to regional economic development. She has twenty years of applied policy and research experience, which has included work for central and local government. Her research interest is labour markets, skills development and the importance of the individual, the place and its culture.
