Project title: Financialisation and the decline of the local pub: An Anglo-German Comparison
Supervisors: Professor Andy Pike, Professor Jane Pollard and Professor Neill Marshall
Cluster affiliation: Economic Geographies
The core aim of the research is to understand and explain the ways in which financialisation is contributing to the dramatic reductions of pubs in both England and Germany. The decline of the local pub will be utilized as a test case to highlight the ways in which financialisation is transforming economic interests and explain the consequences this induces for economies in the local and regional context. The innovative international comparison dynamic will also help explain how the processes of financialisation are unfolding in a geographically uneven manner.
