Project title: The (im)possibility of belonging? The experiences of young asylum seekers in Scotland
Supervisors: Professor Peter Hopkins and Professor Anoop Nayak
My research is based on a collaborative studentship between Newcastle University and the Scottish Refugee Council and focuses on young people’s experiences of belonging in the asylum context, concentrating on both transnational ties and localised forms of belonging. It aims to identify various strategies young asylum seekers and refugees employ in order to claim ownership over their own identities and to create a sense of belonging and the barriers they face in course of these negotiations.
