About Politics

We have a diverse and friendly community of scholars and students committed to achieving excellence in research, teaching and civic engagement. We are located in an historic building at the heart of campus.

Politics is an expanding unit, which currently has 28 full-time academic staff. This will grow to 32 by 2017.

There are more than 40 postgraduate research students and more than 40 postgraduate taught students on our MA programmes. We have more than 500 students on our single and joint honours undergraduate programmes.

We provide support that enables all researchers to produce world-class research. There is an excellent research environment with three active research groups in:

  • International Politics
  • Governance and Political Organisations
  • Political Philosophy

There is innovative teaching across a wide range of specialist areas within politics. Providing new opportunities for ‘students as researchers’, we strengthen links between teaching and research.

A friendly and collegiate atmosphere supports the highest-quality research, teaching and civic engagement. Staff, postgraduates and undergraduates can enjoy studying and working with us.
