Welcome to Politics at Newcastle. We are a diverse and friendly community of scholars and students, located in a historic building at the heart of campus. We are committed to achieving excellence in research, teaching and civic engagement.
Politics is an expanding unit, which currently has 28 full-time academic staff and is planned to grow to 32 staff by 2017. We have over 40 postgraduate research students and a similar number of postgraduate taught students on our MA programmes. We have more than 500 students on our single and joint honours undergraduate programmes.
We have an excellent research environment, with three very active research groups in International Politics, Governance and Political Organisations, and Political Philosophy. We are committed to providing support that enables all of our researchers to produce world-leading research.
In the National Student Survey, we have been 1st in the Russell Group of universities for ‘overall satisfaction’ in three of the last four years. We offer innovative teaching across a very wide range of specialist areas within politics and we are continuing to strengthen the links between teaching and research by providing new opportunities for ‘students as researchers’.
We offer a friendly and collegiate atmosphere that supports the highest quality research, teaching and civic engagement so that staff, postgraduates and undergraduates can enjoy working in Politics at Newcastle.
