Welcome to Politics at Newcastle. We are a diverse and friendly community of scholars and students, located in a historic building at the heart of campus. We are committed to world-leading research and excellent, innovative teaching across the widest possible range of specialist areas within politics.
We have an international reputation for research excellence. In the most recent Research Assessment Exercise we were rated 12th in the UK in “world-leading” output (the highest grade of excellence). Newcastle Politics is ranked in the Excellence group of political science departments in Europe (Die Zeit, 2009).
Our teaching is of the highest quality: 90% of our students are satisfied or very satisfied with their experience here (NSS results, 2008-11).
We offer a wide choice of study options inside your degree programme, and a full schedule of academic and social activities alongside it. Every year, Politics at Newcastle produces articulate, confident graduates possessing the intellectual qualities and skills needed to succeed in their chosen careers.
We also teach a broad range of taught MA degrees focussing on aspects of international politics. Students can choose to follow specialised MA pathways in the study of popular culture and international politics, international political economy, development or human rights, each taught by leading scholars in these fields.
