Newcastle is major centre for research in political philosophy. The work of its political philosophers tackles many of the most important issues in the subject, both contemporary and historical. The Newcastle Ethics, Legal and Political Philosophy Group, a Faculty-sponsored research group, runs a well known weekly research seminar workshops that brings together staff and postgraduates from across the University. The seminars are addressed by distinguished external speakers from across the UK, United States, and other countries, as well as Newcastle staff and postgraduates. The research group also holds regular annual events, including recent conferences with Martha Nussbaum and Thomas Pogge. There is also a reading group that meets regularly.
The political philosophy group in the school is at the centre of a NIASSH-funded group in ethics, legal, and political philosophy.
