Interdisciplinary Research Studentships

Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and Medical Research Council (MRC)

The Joint Research Studentship scheme has been developed to fund interdisciplinary research where the interest falls within both councils and which requires the combined approaches of both the medical and social sciences.

Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)

This scheme hopes to encourage postgraduate research on environmental issues which are of interest to both councils and which require the combined approaches of both the environmental and social sciences. It will fund up to 20 joint interdisciplinary research studentships. The subject matter of the studentships must address the interests of both councils and must be genuinely interdisciplinary in approach.

The terms and conditions of the studentships will be largely the same as for current research studentships. Applicants must hold a degree at Master's level in either the environmental or the social sciences, or equivalent experience. A prospective student must have two named supervisors, one each from a social science and an environmental science background. The department which will administer the studentship must either have ESRC recognition or must satisfy NERC's funding criteria. Please check with the NERC if you are unclear.

If the School is successful in being awarded any interdisciplinary research studentships we will advertise them to potential students from sometime in March/April 2011 on the School web site.
