The Policy, Ethics and Life Sciences (PEALS) research centre is an internationally recognised research centre focused on the social and ethical debates around the contemporary life sciences. It works with a wide range of academic and community-based partners, to develop rigorous and socially engaged analysis, innovative teaching, and public dialogue that informs and contributes to future practices and policies.
The Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) is co-owned by the School and the schools of History, Classics and Archaeology and Modern Languages. It is an interdisciplinary research centre with an international reputation for work across the arts, humanities, social, physical and engineering sciences, focused on the Latin American and Caribbean region.
The School has close links with a number of research institutes in the University:
- the Institute of Health and Society (IHS) contributes significantly to Newcastle University's mission of Transforming Health
- the Institute for Sustainability coordinates research across traditional discipline boundaries to deliver practical, engaged solutions to real-world issues
- the Institute for Social Renewal is Newcastle University’s response to the challenges facing society today
