'Beyond the 'War on Terror': US hegemony, Global (In)Justice, (Structural) Violence, and 'Global democratic Revolution' 2006

Gills BK

Abstract

This article analyses the rhetorical framework of the 'war on terror' and the context of the legitimation of violence, both by the state and by non-state actors. It suggests that the rhetorical framework of the 'war on terror' is instrumental to other means, including the transition to authoritarian governance structures globally, and militarisationa nd securitisation of international as well as domestic politics. Therefore, it concludes that the best response is to reject the 'war on terror' as a legitimate framework of politics and international affairs.
