Abstract: The impact of new technology, particularly micro-electronics and computers, is profoundly changing the structure of transport and communication networks within Europe and how they function. This authoritative survey presents a broad yet detailed picture of the main trends and patterns arising from this transformation, particularly the convergence of the previously separate realms of telecommunications and transport.
