Abstract: This compilation of almost 100 maps is put together using data from the 1991 Census of India. The Atlas maps a regional geography of women and men, using indicators as different as literacy, voting patterns, fertility rates, workforce participation etc. The spatial patterns of millions of missing girls and women are sharply documented in the population maps of different ages and castes. In foregrounding women, the Atlas poses some key quesions: how are knowledge and information constructed and communicate? Why has geography been so silent on the contribution of women to society?
Keywords: Missing girls, spatial divisions of labour
