M.A. Macroeconomics, University of Liverpool, UK.
I was formerly a researcher at Queens University, Belfast and Durham University where I was involved in a number of projects which explored the nature and extent of problems in the Small Business Sector.
My research interests focus on a number of overlapping themes concerned with (i) economic development; (ii) labour market analysis; (iii) science and innovation policy; (iv) gender and work. These activities have come together in a range of research projects since my arrival at Newcastle which are academically rigorous and policy relevant.
I have been involved in a number of projects which have investigated the implications of economic restructuring on the nature of work, skills and labour markets within local and regional economies. Such research projects have covered a wide variety of sectors, ranging from financial services and knowledge intensive business services to the cultural sector.
My research is also concerned with issues surrounding gender and work; most recently through the completion of an FP6 project which examined the opportunities and challenges for participation and career advancement of women at the interface between science and the economy wist.ncl.ac.uk/
Previous work has investigated the changing role of cities in their national and regional contexts and to the understanding of territorial learning processes, knowledge dissemination and transfer in different urban environments. I continue to develop my research interests on the role of universities in territorial development through research on the regional role of universities and the graduate labour market.
