Research Themes and Centres

Our academics participate in a range of research groups within the School, across the University and with colleagues at other institutions.

School research themes

Our research themes are collaborative hubs where academic staff and research students work in partnership.

Exploring new interdisciplinary perspectives is fundamental to our work. We've identified nine key themes that link all three subjects

Faculty research groups

We are active in our Faculty's interdisciplinary research groups, which bring together scholars from different subjects and schools at Newcastle University, including:

University research centres and institutes

Newcastle University supports interdisciplinary scholarship through research institutes including the Newcastle University Humanities Research Institute (NUHRI) and the Newcastle Institute for Social Renewal (NISR), and through University Research Centres.

The School of History, Classics and Archaeology is home to two University research centres, the McCord Centre for Landscape and the Northern Centre for the History of Medicine and Medical Humanities.
