Archaeology teaching highly commended by students in 2010 National Student Survey

Students graduating in 2010 from BA (Hons) Archaeology, BA (Hons) Ancient History and Archaeology and BA (Hons) Archaeology and History delivered a resounding commendation of the teaching on their programmes in the National Student Survey.

The NSS results are evaluated according to the percentage of students answering each question in the category with a 4 or 5 on a 1-5 scale, with 5 being the most positive response. The results from students in their final year in Spring 2010 were as follows:

The student experience of Archaeology at Newcastle was clearly above average in all areas. Each category in the table above consists of a series of questions – students completing the survey gave particularly positive responses to questions regarding the enthusiasm of lecturers (100%), lecturers’ skill at explaining things (96%), the degree to which the course is intellectually stimulating (92%), the detailed comments they received in feedback on their assessed work (90%), the availability of staff (98%), and the degree to which the course enhanced their self-confidence (90%). We are delighted that so many of our students found their studies with us such a positive experience.
