Richard’s role involves developing the HR strategy in support of the University’s strategic objectives. His portfolio includes leadership of the HR Policy and Projects team, encompassing reward management, policy development, HR systems and equality and diversity.

Richard joined the University in 2002 as Reward Manager, having spent around 10 years at Northumbrian Water Group in a range of generalist HR roles. He graduated from Newcastle University in 1991, completed his MA in Human Resources Management at Northumbria and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Richard has a special interest in disability issues. He established the University’s Disabled Employees’ Network and is a campaign volunteer for the RNIB.
