Research Concordat

"A UK-wide process, incorporating the QAA Code of Practice for Research Degree Programmes and the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, enables institutions to gain the European Commission's 'HR Excellence in Research' badge, acknowledging alignment with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and Code of Conduct for their Recruitment"

Newcastle University was one of the first Universities in the UK and Europe to be awarded the HR Excellence in Research Award in September 2010, and we were successful in retaining this award following re-assessment at the end of 2012.

The award recognises our successes in supporting the career development of our researchers and in implementing the national Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, which was agreed between the major funders and employers of researchers in the UK. The Concordat sets out a vision of working practices, roles and responsibilities which should further the attractiveness and sustainability of research careers in the UK.

We are continuously improving the support we offer to our researchers and our draft new Concordat Implementation Plan is available below for comment, along with a report on our progress and achievements to date.  If you have any comments or feedback on the plan, or would like to be more involved in our work, please contact Helen Cameron.
