Staff Benefits

Employee benefits are elements of remuneration given in addition to pay. Questions on voluntary benefits should be addressed to the Reward Team. For other enquiries, please contact your HR Team.

In addition to the listed benefits and offers, members of staff also have access to:

Centre for Physical Recreation and Sport

Excellent sports facilities (indoor and outdoor) and a wide range of activity programmes are available to staff. All staff are welcome to join the Centre. New employees are eligible for one month's free Sports Centre membership.

Give As You Earn (GAYE)

Newcastle University operates a “Give As You Earn” scheme which allows you to make regular monthly tax free deductions to any registered charity in the UK or any organisation recognised by the HM Revenue and Customs as charitable.  The Payroll Office will make the deductions from your gross pay each month until you specify otherwise.

Library

All employees are very welcome to join the University library, which offers a wide range of print and electronic resources.

Open Access Centre

Self study language learning at one of the foremost independent language learning centres in the UK. Employees can use the Centre free of charge and access the self-study resources available in over fifty languages and in a range of formats.

Staff Development Unit

The Staff Development Unit advises on and delivers training and development activities for all categories of University staff.

Students' Union

The services and facilities provided in the Students' Union are available to staff and students. These include: the Students’ Union shop which sells convenience goods; a computer repair service; a fast turnaround printing service; a Santander Bank with full cash service; a 24/7 social learning space with a Starbucks coffee shop; a Subway sandwich outlet; the Mensbar which serves bar snacks; and the Venue which can be hired out for functions or large scale meetings.
