This guidance explains the difference between Academic Visitors and Sponsored Researchers in relation to entry clearance into the UK. If your nominee needs to obtain a visa to enter the UK under the Sponsored Researcher category, you will need to liaise with HR to obtain a Certificate of Sponsorship under Tier 5.
