How do I get a Research Passport?
Please read the process overview below before using the menu on the left to navigate to detailed guidance for completing the forms.
- Download the Role Assessment form [13kB] and
- the Research Passport form [173kB]
- Read the guidance for completing the Research Passport and see
- the Research Passport application flowchart [48kB]
- Complete sections 1–3 of the Research Passport form
- Ask your line manager to complete section 4.
- Send the role assessment form, Research Passport form and the additional evidence to HR
- University HR will send you an occupational health questionnaire and/or CRB application if required.
- Complete your clearance forms and return them to University HR along with any additional evidence if required
- Once any necessary checks are completed, your University HR team will sign off the form and return it to you.
- Take the completed Research Passport form with attachments and a synopsis of what your research will involve to the R&D department of the lead NHS organisation.
Once the form has been authorised by the lead NHS organisation it becomes a valid Research Passport that you can provide to other NHS organisations when you require an Honorary Research Contract or Letter of Access from them.
