Employee benefits are elements of remuneration given in addition to pay. The principal benefits provided by the University include:
- Membership of an excellent defined benefit pension scheme, offering benefits including life insurance and incapacity retirement benefits as well as a retirement pension.
- Generous annual leave provision, of up to 42 days in total, including public holidays and 4 University fixed days over the Christmas/New Year period.
- A wide range of family friendly policies, which include up to 52 week’s maternity leave, of which 18 weeks may be on full pay, as well as paternity, parental, adoption, carers and emergency leave provision. The University also offers a wide range of flexible working patterns, including flexitime, subject to operational constraints.

- Access to discounted season tickets for commuting on public transport, paid for by regular deductions from salary. The University is served by excellent public transport links, being 5 minutes from Haymarket Metro and bus stations, 10 minutes from Eldon Square bus concourse and 15 minutes from Newcastle Central Station.
