Job Families and Job Levels
A job family is a group of jobs. Their essential nature and purpose is similar but the work is carried out at different levels.
A consortium of Universities working with Hay management consultants identified four job families within a University.
These are:
- Administrative and Professional Services
- Operational Services
- Research, Teaching and Enterprise
- Specialist, Technical and Professional Services
- Summary of Job Families
The levels within the families are each described by a role profile, which outlines the typical purpose and types of work activities performed at that level, and the types of knowledge, skills and experience needed. Please click on the family title above to access the role profile for that family.
At any given level, the role profiles in each family have been evaluated as equivalent in size.
