Enable – Support for Disabled Staff

What is the University's position on disability?

At Newcastle University, we provide support to disabled staff and their managers. We understand that what really disables someone is not just their disability. It is more likely to be the physical features of their environment, how organisations work and other people's attitudes. These features may seem fine for the majority of people but may fail to consider the requirements and aspirations of someone with a disability.

Newcastle University’s Commitment to Disabled Employees, is to provide an inclusive environment which:

  • Provides a workplace in which disabled staff are treated solely on the basis of their merits
  • Provides development and training which enables disabled staff to work to their full potential
  • Provides a workplace in which disabled applicants and staff receive fair, relevant and appropriate treatment

The Enable guidance contains information about:

  • The support at the University for disabled employees and their managers
  • A summary of the procedure to be followed to decide what support you may need
  • Why and how we monitor the effect of our policies and procedures on disabled staff
