New system introduced by HMRC requires that HR and Payroll transaction forms be revised this month (February). New forms are to be used with immediate effect.
HR Business Calendar now available
In keeping with the University Business Calendar, which is available on Outlook, HR now has an e-calendar listing the dates of meetings, deadlines and events throughout the year.
National Pay Negotiations - January 2012
Negotiations on the 2011/12 pay award have now been concluded. An increase of £150 on all points on the common pay spine will be applied in the January payroll, back-dated to 1 August 2011.
The University shows its appreciation to staff by awarding an additional day's leave for 2011/12
As announced on Thursday by the Vice-Chancellor, the University Executive Board has proposed and Remuneration Committee has agreed to award an additional day to be added to the annual leave entitlement of current employees for the current holiday year, 2011/12.
UCU Strike Action over Changes to the USS
The UCU has declared a day of national strike action on 30th November 2011 in connection with the changes to the USS that were introduced on 1st October.

The University employers (UCEA) met with the HE trade unions on 26 May within the agreed national negotiating framework (New JNCHES).
USS Pensions Proposals - 27 May 2011
The proposed changes to the USS, revised following last year’s consultation exercise, were considered by the USS Joint Negotiating Committee at its meeting on 10 May.

UCU Industrial Action – 15 April 2011
The one day strike called by the UCU on 24 March was supported by 218 members of staff locally who had one day’s pay withheld as a result. The strike action here at Newcastle was on the issue of the 2010 pay award and the UCU’s demand for a national agreement on job security.
UCU Industrial Action – 24 March 2011
UCU national strike on pay and job protection takes place on 24 March following a series of one day strikes at many universities across the UK regarding proposed changes to the USS and TPS. The UCU did not call any strike action locally regarding the proposed changes to the USS.
