The CRESTAs (Clinics for Research and Service in Themed Assessment) are led and managed by the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
CRESTAs are a novel concept aimed at providing enhanced care for patients with complex multi-morbidity through a 'one-stop' multidisciplinary visit. Launched in 2012, the clinics are expected to better serve the needs of an increasingly aged patient population, and are also geared at recruitment of such patients for participation in early phase trials.
In addition to comprehensive clinical assessment, the multifunctional central 'hub' of the CRESTA floor in the Newcastle Biomedical Research Building facilitates input from specialists in rehabilitation and autonomic function assessment, thus enabling all key aspects of complex age related diseases to be evaluated in a single visit.
The waiting area is 'older person friendly', with features more akin to a day hospital, to minimise fatigue during the visit and create a more stimulating user environment. Furthermore, the discussions that are held in team meeting rooms following patient assessment provide a rich, interactive educational and training experience for clinicians, allied health professionals and basic science researchers.
The Pavilion Café, adjacent within the building, allows for patients and their carers to take a break during visits.
